Gas fireplace shuts off after a few minutes. It shuts off the flow of gas 100 if the flame goes outif you are not completely comfortable with looking at this yourself have a technician look at it for you. I have replaced the valve the thermopile and over temp sensor. This only occurs in the minutes after start up and does not occur when the fireplace has been running for more then ten minutes.
Ive used it several times this late fallwinter with no problems. Gas fireplace burns then shuts down pilot light works fine when i throw on the wall switch the main burner ignites fine. Now in the past two times its been used last week and tonite it will shut itself off after about 20 min.
Take note that its the pilot head not the thermocouple. There is no room for errors when you are dealing with gas appliances. Vent free gas heater support.
The pilot will re light without problem and the whole sequence can be repeated ad infinitum. Vent free gas heater support. Why does my gas fireplace go out after only a few minutes of running.
If the gas fireplace shuts off after a few minutes its pretty much always going to be a pilot head issue or a valve issue. At turn on there is significant oxygen and the fire consumes the oxygen but there is a problem the consumed gas needs to push the heavy and dense cold air in the chimney up out of the pipe in order to draw. Flame fails to heat the thermocouple completely resulting in a drop in the millivolts produced and the gas valve shuts off the gas supply to the heater.
It starts up fine runs for about 5 10 minutes than completely shuts offpilot and all.
